Description
Nine Mile Point lighthouse on Simcoe Island, showing Lake Ontario in background.
Nine Mile Point on Simcoe Island is the most westerly point in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence System. Built in the "Imperial" style in 1833, the lighthouse faces the harsh, open waters of Lake Ontario. Forty feet high, it was originally manually operated, but is now fully automated, and a federal heritage building.
