Description
The Murney Tower, on the Kingston waterfront, is one of the four martello towers built to complement the Fort Henry defensive system. Built in 1846, along with Cathcart Tower on Cedar Island, Fort Frederick, at the tip of what is now the Royal Military College, and Shoal Tower, in the Confederation Basin, the tower helped protect the harbour and approaches to Kingston. The tower is now a National Historic Site, and is open to the public as a museum.
