Description
Photography is, at best, an impressionistic medium, blending the visual effect of pixels to render an image which conveys a message, a feeling. We usually strive to 'preserve detail' and fight to minimize the inherent impressionism, but every now and then, we encounter an image where the fine details become a distraction, and reduce the impact of the image.
I don't often use texture, but I found the original image was better as I backed away from it. When I got close, the fine detail was bouncing my eye all over the place. Processing the image as I did allowed the tree to be a tree rather than a willow, allowed the light to be a streak of color rather that a reflection of the sun. Removing geographic identifiers lets the viewer imagine being there, no matter where it might be, and gave me a much more powerful statement.
